Job Description

Responsibilities:-Conduct research on regional aquifer hydrology and conjunctive management of regional water resources in arid regions, develop hydrological models (MODFLOW, SWAT, Hydrus 3D, Decision Support System, and other models) to simulate hydrological processes, river operations, and assess integrated management strategies for regional water resources; upgrade the models using appropriate computer languages, such as FORTRAN, C++ or others, design and conduct field experiments and study, interpreting field and modeling data results.

-Assist the Project Leader to develop proposals to secure external funding for research projects, prepare journal articles, reports, presentations, and graphics.-Work with research technicians and student workers to perform field work and model simulation.

Occasional Duties:

-Field data collection and compilation, maintain field equipment in good condition, collect water samples, measure water levels, conduct pumping tests as needed, and perform other job-related duties as required.-Perform other job related duties as required.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:-Computer competencies required. Strong service ethic and desire to work with all audiences in assigned county, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin. Abilility to communicate effectively.

Other Requirements:-Travel connected with official duties may be required. This may include attendance at night and/or weekend meetings, participation in out-of-county events.

-Must have access to personal vehicle and obtain/maintain valid Driver's license and appropriate liability insurance.

-Must have willingness to work necessary hours to fulfill job responsibilities (some evenings and weekends).

-Must reside in assigned county (NOTE: Urban designed counties exempt from this requirement).

Required Education: Ph.D. in engineering or geological sciences or related field

Required Experience: Experience covering field observation, data interpretation, decision support system, numerical modeling, and statistical analysis of hydrological processes in arid regions under changing climate conditions.

Preferred Experience: Knowledge of regional aquifers, agricultural irrigation, watershed and water management frameworks in arid/semi-arid regions. Development of hydrological models plus one to three years of research in interaction of groundwater and surface water; GIS applications.

Special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Familiar with MODFLOW/MT3D, SWAT or other models for simulation of water flow and solute transport. Familiarity with appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment. Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to create databases, perform statistical analyses, present data and perform other computer related tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Preferred: Programming experience with visual Basic, C++, and Fortran; Database, ArcInfo/ArcView Statistical analysis.
